Indigenous. Knowledge. Powerful

welcome to uru uru team

Qamñi zoñi, Kamisaki, Hola, Hello from 3,686 m!
Our lake is in a critical state. Because of plastic and mining pollution from rapid urbanisation, still-active gold extraction, and rising temperatures, our lake is now on the verge of disappearing, mirroring what happened to Poopo Lake in 2010.

Indigenous Youth

We are Indigenous youth working to restore our sacred Uru Uru lake by combining Indigenous knowledge with science. Using the phytoremediation properties of totora, we are removing mining pollutants, and through youth-led community action, we are cleaning the lake little by little.
Our work is mostly led by young Indigenous women, honouring the balance of Pachamama, our Mother Earth. We come from diverse academic backgrounds, united by our heritage and a shared commitment to bring life back to Lake Uru Uru, contributing to the global fight against climate change.

Our Motto:

“Indigenous Knowledge and Technology to the vanguard of Environmental Conservation and Restoration“
